Abstract
Otolith shape analyses were found to usefully inform the stock structure of ling in New Zealand. Otoliths from Chatham Rise and Sub-Antarctic were correctly allocated to area with a success rate of 77.4%, a level indicative of a differentiation between ling from these two areas. For a north-south Sub-Antarctic comparison, a success rate of 50% strongly indicated no differentiation.
