Physical characteristics

Black Oreo have uniformly grey-black bodies and large eyes. They can reach a maximum length of 40 cm.

Life cycle

Black Oreo has an estimated maximum age of 153 years. It is estimated that females reach maturity at 34 cm in length and 27 years of age. Spawning takes place from late October to December.

Habitat

Black Oreo is mostly found in the south-east and southern parts of New Zealand at depths of 600-1300 m.
