Abstract
This report documents the 2025 stock assessment of red rock lobsters in CRA 1, including a primary ‘Far North’ assessment excluding areas 903 and 904 and a secondary “all of CRA 1” assessment. The model was fitted to length frequency data, proportion male data, tag-recapture growth increment data, and standardised catch-per-unit-effort indices. The model was fitted using a new lobster stock assessment software decamod that was coded in RTMB. This stock assessment estimated the Far North region to have had generally constant or slightly declining harvest rates since the 2000s, with stable population levels over that period. The Far North region lobster population was projected to increase over the next five years with constant current catch given recent recruitment.
