Red Snapper have a bright red body and white marks on the scales. They can reach a maximum length of 55 cm, but most adults average 30-40 cm.
Red Snapper are thought to have a maximum age of 30-40 years. Nothing is known about the reproductive cycle of Red Snapper.
Red Snapper is found in northern New Zealand at depths to 500 m in open water and around deep reefs.
