Lookdown Dory are pale brown on top with silver-grey undersides and are distinguishable by the high positioning of the eye. They can grow to a maximum length of 65 cm, though average length for males is 40 cm and 55 cm for females.
Lookdown Dory has a maximum age of over 30 years. Females reach maturity at a length of 35 cm. Spawning occurs through autumn and winter.
Lookdown Dory are found throughout New Zealand, but are most common on the Chatham Rise. They are found at depths of 50-1200 m, but are most common at 400-600 m. Lookdown Dory feed on crustaceans and fish.
