Scampi are white-pinkish with dark orange stripes at the joints.
Scampi have a maximum age of 15 years. Females reach maturity at 30-56 mm depending on their location. Spawning occurs through spring and early summer.
Scampi are widely distributed around New Zealand at depths between 200-500 m. They build burrows in muddy sediments and spend most of their time in the burrow.
