Six of the seven species of sea turtle are classified by the IUCN as Endangered or Critically Endangered (IUCN, 2004). Turtles, along with albatrosses, are long-lived and slow-maturing, making their populations particularly vulnerable to bycatch (Small 2005).  Bycatch and entanglement is considered the biggest threat to cetaceans and sea turtles (WWF, 2004).
