Acoustic data on spawning southern blue whiting were collected along 69 transects in eight snapshots south of the Bounty Islands from FV Tomi Maru 87 between 13 and 25 August 2011. Acoustic biomass estimates from the eight snapshots ranged between 10 017 t and 48 048 t. The best acoustic estimate in 2011 was 35 597 t (c.v. 28%), which was similar to estimates from 2010 and 2009, but less than a third of the estimates from 2007 and 2008. This fishery is still dominated by fish from the strong 2002 year-class.
