Abstract
3 catchments in ANG14 (Orari, Opihi and Waihao Rivers) were sampled by electric fishing and baited fyke nets. Shortfins were of the catch by both methods. Abundance of juvenile and larger shortfins declined with distance inland but there were no obvious habitat associations for longfins. Growth rates were below the average for shortfins from other South Island rivers but above average for longfins. There was evidence of depletion of large shortfins, but the lack of small longfins was a concern.
