This report reviews interview data collected by the Hawke’s Bay Sport Fishing Club during club fishing competitions between 2006–07 and 2015–16. CPUE indices were calculated from these data, for four commonly caught species, were compared with CPUE indices calculated from less frequent surveys conducted by independent research providers at the same ramp. The implications of these comparisons varied, but there was enough evidence to suggest that data provided by fishing clubs could be used to inform fisheries management in some circumstances. Some recommendations are made.
