Abstract
Theoretical and empirical approaches for estimating natural mortality from life-history correlates are described and developed for ling stocks around New Zealand. Theoretical approaches were found to behave well, producing credible estimates of natural mortality for females. These are recommended for use in future ling stock assessments.
