Abstract
Follow-up surveys (November 2018 to May 2019) at long-term monitoring sites affected by the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake showed that intertidal reefs were still mostly bare, with algal communities recovering only in low-zone areas. Subtidally, there was little recovery in devegetated areas and previously abundant algal stands had become more sparse and fragmented. Recovery trajectories were variable across sites.
