Seabird bycatch is primarily through net captures in the sub-Antarctic squid and middle-depth trawl fisheries. This work assesses contributory factors. A model was developed that describes the capture process as a function of selected covariates, including the target fishery, location, season and vessel class. Risk was defined as the probability of bird capture, and through comparison across covariate levels we were able to determine the relative risk associated with different fishing practices.
