Region - Chatham Islands (FMA 4)

The abundance of delicious seafood in surrounding waters has made these a traditional food source for the locals. Species taken for the local table include paua, kina, rock lobster, blue cod, butterfish, tarakihi and häpuku/bass.

As most Chatham Islanders have Maori/Moriori ancestry or Maori/Moriori family members, fisheries here can be thought of as having a very strong customary element.
