Title: FAR-2017-22 Albacore catch sampling – characterisation and sample design.

A characterisation was carried out on the albacore troll fishery in New Zealand waters and results of this were used to develop a sample design that is representative of the fishery. Targets were developed for sampling to be carried out during the 2015–16 to 2017–18 fishing seasons. Simulations were carried out to investigate the effect of changing sample sizes and numbers of landings on the CV.

Details the development of a quantitative demographic model with which to estimate vital rates and predict population changes for Antipodean wandering albatross (D. antipodensis antipodensis). Although survivorship has changed over time, it is apparent that changes in the breeding rate, success and age of first breeding are primarily responsible for temporal changes in the population abundance.
