Definition
The farming of fish or shellfish. The most common species currently being farmed in New Zealand are mussels, oysters and salmon. Aquaculture activities is defined in the Resource Management Act 1991. Aquaculture industry is defined in the Commodity Levies (Mussel, Oyster, and Salmon) Order 2007. Marine farming is defined in the Fisheries Act 1983.
