Physical characteristics

Hoki are blue-green or purplish on top with silvery sides and belly. They can grow to a maximum length of 142 cm.

Life cycle

Hoki have a maximum age of 20-25 years with males reaching maturity at 60-65 cm length and females at 65-70 cm. Spawning takes place from late June to mid-September.

Habitat

Hoki are found around Stewart and Snares shelf, over the sub-Antarctic and the Chatham Rise and occasionally around the North Island. Hoki inhabit depths of 10-900 m, but are most commonly found at depths of 200-600 m.
