Horse Mussels can grow to a maximum length of 400 mm, but on average only reach lengths of 260-300 mm.
Horse Mussels are thought to have a maximum age of around 15 years. Broadcast spawning occurs all year with a peak in the summer months.
Horse Mussels inhabit muddy-sand substrates in shallow intertidal and subtidal waters to depths of 50 m.
