Tuatua have a regionally variable maximum size ranging from 50-80 mm.

Life cycle

Tuatua have a maximum age of at least 5 years. They broadcast spawn twice a year, from September to November and from February to April.

Habitat

Tuatua are found mainly around the North Island, but do occur in some parts of the South Island. They inhabit fine sandy beach areas and are suspension feeders.
