Unidentified (UNF1)
Maori name
Scientific name

This code is rarely used but may be used when the species is not known.  It is occasionally used when catching and landing an unknown or an unidentified species or if a species is suspected to be new to science. These such species may be sent to The National History Unit of the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa in Wellington or other research organisations in New Zealand.

For exporting purposes UNF may be used for fish mince, fish meal etc.

Other such codes:

BIV = Unidentifiable bivalve (type of shellfish)
UNI = Unidentifiable fish
DOT = Unidentifiable dolphin
XSL = Seabird, large
XSS = Seabird, small

However it is preferable to use the species code or family code where possible.
