Abstract
New Zealand fisheries taking school shark (SCH) are described for the period 1989–90 to 2012–13, based on commercial catch and effort data. Nine commercial fisheries (4 setnet and 5 bottom longline) are identified, defined by location and method of capture, and which have largely overlapping spatial definitions. The only exception was eastern Cook Strait, where the setnet and bottom longline fisheries behaved differently. CPUE analyses were used to estimate changes in abundance for this species.
