Abstract
A dive survey of Pecten novaezelandiae was conducted in the Te Whaka ā Te Wera Mātaitai, Stewart Island, to provide information on size-frequency and density of scallops. A total of 383 live scallops were sampled over 20 sites of 100 m2 each. Very low densites were observed and most scallops within the Mātaitai were found at two sites. Size frequency distribution shows the presence of large scallops in the Mātaitai. Uneven distribution of scallop size frequency suggests inconsistent recruitment
