Abstract
This report documents the age determination protocol for kahawai, describing the current scientific methods used in New Zealand for otolith preparation and age determination to ensure accuracy and consistency over time. A brief history and the changes in the methodologies used in ageing kahawai are reported, and a description of the reference collection, and annotated examples of kahawai otolith preparations are also included.
