Ling are mottled orange-pink with brown wavy markings and a white underside. Females grow larger and faster than males. Ling can grow to a maximum size of 200 cm.
Ling have a maximum age of 30 years. Spawning is regionally variable, generally occuring from early spring through summer.
Ling are found throughout New Zealand waters at depths of 100-900 m. They are demersal predators of crustaceans and fishes.
