Species

There are many thousands of known aquatic species globally and new ones are added by scientists each week.

This site covers the most commonly fished New Zealand aquatic life, together with New Zealand marine mammals impacted by fishing.

Species of aquatic life managed under the Fisheries Act 1996 include both freshwater and marine aquatic plants, algae, fish and shellfish, found in a wide range of environments.
