Abstract
The fisheries taking ling in LIN 1 are described for 1989–90 to 2015–16, based on commercial catch and effort data. The most important fishery was the bottom longline fishery targeting ling, which took 42% of the 27 year catch total. Ling is also caught as a by-catch in a number of bottom trawl fisheries. Standardised catch per unit effort analyses were conducted on two bottom longline fisheries covering East Northland and the Bay of Plenty, but using different target species definitions.
