Abstract
This report summarises bycatch and discards in orange roughy and oreo trawl fisheries for 2001–02 to 2014–15, based on analysis of fisheries observer and commercial catch effort data. Hoki, deepwater dogfish and rattails were the main bycatch species across both fisheries. Total annual bycatch was 700–6000 t and 350–1600 t in the orange roughy and oreo fisheries, respectively, and total annual discards were 180–2100 t and 14–670 t. Rattails were the main species discarded in both fisheries.
